The Story Behind the Book

Matthew Buckley spent 15 years in law enforcement, serving as a deputy sheriff. He worked patrol, detention, investigations, and undercover operations. He was awarded Officer of the Year in 2018 and the Chief's Special Investigator Award in 2019.

But behind the badges and accolades, Matthew was drifting. PTSD, alcoholism, and substance abuse were destroying his life from the inside out. He was successful on paper, hollow inside.

Then came the personal apocalypse—the moment when drift costs you everything.

Today, Matthew has been sober since 2019 and is a published author, speaker, and coach. In Ditch the Drift, he shares the raw truth about his journey from rock bottom to intentional living—and the exact system he built to reclaim direction.

"I didn't just survive my past—I leveraged it. Every mistake became a lesson. Every failure became fuel. This is how you turn drift into direction." — Matthew A. Buckley
